IGEHRC Amethi is a Secondary level hospital, housed in premises rented from the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital at Munshiganj in Amethi district in central Uttar Pradesh. The first in the IGEHRC chain established in December 2005, the Amethi hospital conducts rural eye camps, refractive error correction, glaucoma and retinopathy. The hospital also hosts Fellows. A community college, with hostel facilities, has recently been constructed to train MLOPs. Typically, it gets patients from and organises eye camps in Ambedkar Nagar, Amethi, parts of Barabanki, parts of Faizabad, Jaunpur, Pratapgarh, parts of Raebarely and Sultanpur districts with a population of about 23 million (Census 2011). The hospital has upgraded its services by setting up a Vitreo Retina department to meet the demand for advanced eye care treatment for persons with Vitreo- Retina problems.
The 100-bed facility screens over 400 patients a conducts around 100 surgeries every day. Since inception, IGEHRC Amethi has examined over 1.3 million persons and carried out over 1,75,000 eye surgeries.
