Framework

The IGEHRC framework for outreach programmes is an amalgamation of different strategies to take eye care services to the community’s doorsteps. It aims to provide curative, preventive and rehabilitative care to the community along with information, education and communication (IEC) programmes to boost service delivery to potential patients in the community. Collaboration with and support of community leaders as well as non governmental and community based organisations is another important aspect of the outreach programme framework. Some activities that are an integral part the community outreach programmes are: eye camps, school screening programme, mobile van screening camps, and collaborations with organisations like Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojna (RGMVP) and Rajiv Gandhi Arogya Yojna (RAY) for the use of their resource persons to spread the message of eye care and carry out basic eye screening in villages.
